SEL-1102 Computing Platform for Value-Added Resellers

Ordering Information

Budgetary Price:
$4,100

The SEL-1102 is a rugged computer built to withstand harsh environments in utility substations, and industrial control and automation. The SEL-1102 comes without an operating system, allowing you to load your operating system of choice such as Linux®. Designed and manufactured to the same standards as our protective relays, the SEL-1102 has no moving parts, and withstands -40° to +75°C. With an MTBF of 10 times over other industrial computers, it is backed by SEL’s no-questions-asked, worldwide, ten-year product warranty.

  • Robust hardware design: no fans, no moving parts, ten-year warranty
Improve reliability with the SEL-1102, which has a predicted mean time between failures (MTBF) of at least ten times that of typical computers. An independent diagnostics watchdog processor improves system availability by detecting and alarming for problems, detecting system crashes, and restarting the main processor. Eliminate inverters by using station dc power.

  • Wide power supply ranges: 24/48 Vdc; 48/125 Vdc or 120 Vac; and 125/250 Vdc or 120/240 Vac
Wide supply ranges, without external inverters, make the SEL-1102 suitable for multiple applications.

  • Reliable substation operation—meets IEEE C37.90 and IEC 60255 Protective Relay Standards
Install the SEL-1102 in substations instead of desktop and rack-mount computers designed for controlled office environments. The SEL-1102  is designed for harsh substation environments and withstands vibration, electrical surges, fast transients, and extreme temperatures.

  • Separate system processor and watchdog microcontroller enhance system performance and availability
An independent watchdog microcontroller complements a choice of Transmeta or Intel® system microprocessors. The microcontroller detects and alarms for problems, detects operating system interruptions, and restarts the system processor.

  • Flexible solution meets value-added resellers’ needs using computer industry standards
Load your software to meet your needs. The SEL-1102 is compatible with popular operating systems and software, and includes expansion support for PC-104 and PC-104 Plus cards, optional IDE drives, and memory. Includes two Ethernet ports, four USB ports, an IRIG-B time input, and IRIG-B time outputs.

  • Configurable Label Simplifies Product Identification
Supports configurable slide-in label for the product name, allowing you to label it as you see fit.

  • The SEL-1102 is primarily intended for sale to value-added resellers (VARs). The value that they add includes installing the operating system and applications software, and initializing databases for specific end-user applications. Some end users are internal integrators, or “super users,” with personnel capable of installing an operating system and integrating their own systems. Or, if you are an end user that works with a third-party integrator, consider specifying SEL-1102 hardware to your integrator.

  • Install your software in the SEL-1102 hardware for the following example applications and more.

    • Connect a video monitor, keyboard, and mouse to provide a human-machine interface (HMI) for alarm annunciation, local indication, control, and configuration.
    • Connect to communications processors in a substation to convert relay data to a legacy protocol for a SCADA master. Use data from SEL relays and other devices instead of lower reliability remote terminal units.
    • Use the SEL-5040 acSELerator Report Server™ Software to detect, gather, and summarize relay event reports.
    • Gather time-tagged events from relays and I/O processors to serve as a station-wide Sequential Events Recorder (SER). Forward data to a system-level computer for system-wide SER.
    • Perform automatic control.
    • Concentrate data from relays, communications and logic processors, and other devices; forward information to multiple master data users, for example, SCADA, EMS, Power Quality, and Equipment Maintenance systems.
    • Install soft-PLC software for local automatic control.
