SEL-3094
Interface Converter Awarded
as
United Telecom Council "2003
Telecom Product of the Year"

On May 5, at the annual meeting of the United Telecom Council (UTC)
, the SEL-3094 Interface Converter was selected as the "Telecom
Product of the Year" for 2003. On-site judges reviewed submitted
nominations and visited the display booths of participating vendors.
They learned about the nominated products and applications from the literature
and displays, and from interviewing booth personnel. The SEL-3094 uses
the "IEEE C37.94 Standard for N times 64 kilobit per second Optical
Fiber Interfaces between Teleprotection and Multiplexer Equipment." The
standard specifies a serial, synchronous optical-fiber link between communications
multiplexers and protective relays. Optical fiber links provide improved
safety and data integrity compared to traditional wire links.
The SEL-3094 provides fiber-optic conversion for the metallic ITU-T
G.703 or IEEE-422 interfaces traditionally used between relays and multiplexers,
One judge noted that the SEL-3094 enables faster adoption of the new
standard by providing a quick migration path for existing installations.
Other currently available SEL products that comply with the IEEE C37.94
Standard include the SEL-311L Line-Current Differential Relay and the
SEL-2594 Contact Transfer Module. The upcoming SEL-387L Line-Current
Differential Relay also includes an IEEE C37.94 compliant option.
Founded in 1948, the United
Telecom Council is a global non-profit association representing the telecommunications
and information technology interests of electric, gas, and water utilities;
natural gas pipelines; and other critical infrastructure companies and
their strategic business partners.
