The SEL-710 Motor Protection Relay features the industry's most accurate motor protection together with settings, mounting, and communication options designed for easy application. The SEL-710 with AccuTrack™ Thermal Model determines the longest safe starting time (no speed switch needed) and reduces wait time between motor starts up to 33%. Choose from eight communication protocols, including Ethernet, Modbus®, IEC 61850, and DeviceNet® for fast integration into control systems.

The SEL-710 calculates the motor speed from the voltage and current, and the electrical model of the motor. Knowing the speed, it accurately calculates the rotor heat, solving high-inertia starting problem. Accurate heat calculation also minimizes the cooling period required between starts for all motors.

Easily set motor protection with motor nameplate data. The small footprint and flexible mounting options allow easy retrofit without cutting or drilling. The user configurable front panel gives users flexibility for custom messages, alarms, and pushbutton actions.

The SEL-710’s flexible system of slide-in I/O and communication cards delivers up to eight communication protocols, including Ethernet, Modbus, and DeviceNet. Users can now send information from the SEL-710 to a remote terminal, central control room, engineering access, and other locations using multiple protocols at the same time.

  • Optimize Start Times
The SEL-710 calculates thermal energy in the motor to determine maximum safe start times, with full motor protection. Accurate temperature tracking also minimizes the time needed between starts.

  • Convenient Controls
Use the four programmable push buttons on the front panel for quick personalized control, with factory default start and stop functions.

  • Advanced Protection
The SEL-710 provides overcurrent protection, thermal overload, undercurrent, current unbalance, current differential, phase loss, ground fault, and over or under frequency and much more.

  • Easy Communications
Choose from single or dual, copper or fiber-optic Ethernet, Modbus® TCP, IEC 61850, DeviceNet, Modbus Serial, EIA-232, EIA-485, Telnet, and File Transfer Protocols. Pick one or multiple connections, including multiple Modbus sessions for custom configuration of your application.

  • Rugged Design
    Industry’s widest ambient temperature operating range, -40° to +85°C (-40° to +185°F).

  • Provide accurate protection of motors with high-inertia loads throughout the starting period without a speed switch.

  • Protect the motor through start, run, and restart conditions with the AccuTrack™ thermal model.

  • Customize front panel push-button operation and LED’s, or use default start and stop capabilities at your fingertips.

  • Personalize LCD messages through the event driven display point settings.

  • Build your motor protection just the way you want it with an innovative internal option rack.

  • Add fast and secure motor current differential protection using the optional current input card.

  • Enter 14 points of nameplate data directly into the front panel with the nameplate application, or use Windows®-based acSELerator QuickSet® SEL-5030 Software to guide you through the setting process.

  • Create an integrated control system with a variety of I/O and communication options.

  • Use comprehensive reporting to understand events, schedule maintenance, detect unfavorable trends, modify loads, and satisfy information requirements of supervisory systems.

  • Include RTD inputs as a part of the integrated thermal model or to bias protection.

  • Use built-in Mirrored Bits® Communications to get fast relay-to-relay status information, improve trip times, and reduce arc flash hazards.

  • Select the external RTD module (SEL-2600A or SEL-2600D) to eliminate expensive wire pulls and reduce wiring terminations at the relay by as much as 40 percent, while acquiring clean RTD signals and an additional contact input.

  • Select from among 45 standard motor protection curves or use nameplate data.

  • Use acSELerator QuickSet® SEL-5030 Software or SEL-5010 Relay Assistant Software to manage your relay settings.

  • Flexible I/O for Local Control and System Applications
The base unit includes three digital outputs and two digital inputs. There are three card slots for optional SELect™ I/O cards, including the following:

    • Four digital inputs (DI) and four digital outputs (DO)
    • Four fast hybrid digital outputs (DO), four digital inputs(DI)
    • Eight digital inputs (DI)
    • Four digital outputs (DO), three digital inputs (DI), and one analog output (AO)
    • Four analog inputs (AI) and four analog outputs (AO)
    • Eight analog inputs (AI) for dc process values
    • Three ac voltage inputs
    • Current differential and three ac voltage inputs
    • Ten RTD inputs

  • Choice of IRIG-B time-code input or PTC (thermistor) input.

  • External RTDs (12 RTD inputs and one contact input on SEL-2600A or SEL-2600D RTD Module mounted near motor).

  • Choose from Ethernet, Modbus TCP, IEC 61850, DeviceNet, Modbus Serial, EIA-232, EIA-485, Telnet, and File Transfer Protocols.

  • Conformal Coating—Protect equipment from harsh environments and airborne contaminants such as hydrogen sulfide, chlorine, salt, and moisture.
