Real-Time Synchrophasors On Your Desktop

Synchrophasor Desktop DiagramThe SEL-2032 Communications Processor collects and provides synchrophasor data for desktop viewing. SEL offers a Microsoft® Excel® form that automatically communicates with the SEL-2032 over a serial cable to collect the synchrophasor data. The form collects a full set of phasor data from the SEL-2032 every two seconds and automatically populates Excel data fields. You can then write equations in Excel to process and compare phase angles.

Step-by-Step Connection Process

  1. Connect the SEL PMCU devices (e.g., an SEL-421 or SEL-311 Relay) to the SEL-2032 using a C273A serial cable.
  2. Connect the SEL-2032 to your PC using a C272A serial cable.
  3. Apply all of the settings listed below. Apply the PMCU settings to each device individually. Repeat the SEL-2032 port settings for each connected PMCU.
  4. Verify that the port settings for the SEL-2032 connection to the PC match the associated PC serial port settings. The Microsoft Excel macro below allows setting this information within the spreadsheet.
  5. Run the form by selecting ALT+F11and then the Run button to view the data.
