Smoke-Free Workplace Policy

Although Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. employs individuals who smoke, SEL discourages smoking and strongly supports helping employees quit smoking. If you smoke, you must:

• Realize and acknowledge that SEL has a no-smoking policy to protect the health of all SEL employees and to minimize loss of productivity due to smoking-related illnesses. Smoking damages the health of smokers and often those around them. It also reduces productivity, increases illness, and impacts focus and attention to work.
• Realize and respect that smoke odor is offensive to many people. We have a strict nonsmoking environment. As a result, if you smoke, you must ensure that you and your clothing do not smell of smoke, and you must respect the sensitivities of other employees to this offensive odor.
• Understand and agree not to smoke anywhere on SEL property, its facilities, in your vehicle in SEL parking lots or when being used for SEL business, in any SEL vehicle, at SEL-sponsored events, or, unless prohibited by state law, with SEL customers or vendors at any time or location.
• Understand and respect that there are no "smoking breaks" allowed and no "smoking areas" at SEL, nor may employees leave the facilities to smoke.

SEL provides information to employees regarding programs to help them quit smoking. Employees violating any provision of the Smoke-Free Workplace Policy may be subject to corrective action up to, and including, termination.
