Héctor J. Altuve received his BSEE degree in 1969 from the Central University of Las Villas, Santa Clara, Cuba, and his Ph.D. in 1981 from Kiev Polytechnic Institute, Kiev, Ukrania, with "Development of Directional and Non-Directional Static Overcurrent Relays for Distribution Networks" as his dissertation topic. His main research interests are in power system protection and control. In 1999-2000, he served as the Schweitzer visiting professor at Washington State University’s Department of Electrical Engineering. Author of more than 80 technical papers, Dr. Altuve served as professor, Graduate Doctoral Program, FIME, at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, Monterrey, and N.L., Mexico, for the past seven years and continues to instruct there on a part time basis. In 2001, Altuve joined SEL as a senior research engineer based out of Monterrey, Mexico. He is an IEEE senior member.
