Programmable Automation Controller

Flexible I/O for automatic control, SCADA, sequential events reporting, station integration, remote monitoring, and plant control systems.

SEL-2411 Programmable Automation Controller

  • Flexible I/O for Local Control and System Applications
The base unit includes three digital outputs and two digital inputs. There are four card slots for optional SELECT I/O cards, including the following:
    • Eight analog inputs (AI) for dc process values
    • Eight digital inputs (DI) to sense status of contacts
    • Eight digital outputs (DO) to control external devices
    • Four DI and four DO
    • Four AI and four analog outputs (AO)
    • Three ac voltage inputs
    • Four ac current inputs
    • Three ac current and three ac voltage inputs
    • Ten RTD inputs
  • Convenient Customizable Controls
Use four programmable pushbuttons on the front panel for quick, personalized local control. Print labels for six front-panel LEDs to show channel activity, device status, critical I/O status, or the results of logic calculations. Label four pushbuttons and associated LEDs to simplify operator interaction.
  • Easy Communications
Choose from Ethernet, EIA-232, EIA-485, Modbus® Serial, DNP3 Serial, Modbus TCP, DNP3 LAN/WAN, IEC 61850, SEL MIRRORED BITs® communications, Telnet, and File Transfer Protocols. Pick one or multiple connections, including Modbus and DNP sessions.
  • Local Control With SELOGIC® Control Equations
Easily program with powerful math and logic. Use control equations with logic, arithmetic, analog comparison, edge-trigger, and timer functions for automatic local control and to combine data into system information. Time-deterministic, high-speed processing is ideal for time-critical applications.
  • High Reliability and Rugged Design
Apply in harsh substation environments; the SEL-2411 withstands vibration, electrical surges, fast transients, and extreme temperatures. Compare our superior specification compliance, higher reliability, lower cost, and ten-year, world-wide warranty.
  • Serial Communications
    • Independent front and rear EIA-232 ports with 9-pin connectors
    • Optional card adds another EIA-232 port and an EIA-485 port
    • Full-duplex multimode fiber-optic serial port option
    • ASCII commands
    • SEL Fast Messages, MIRRORED BITScommunications
    • Modbus binary RTU
    • Optional DNP3 Level 2 Slave
  • Ethernet Communications
    • Optional 10/100BASE-T port
    • Telnet for ASCII commands
    • FTP to transfer data and settings as files
    • Modbus TCP
    • Optional DNP3 LAN/WAN
    • Optional IEC 61850 communications
  • Software

  • Automatically control station auxiliaries, shed loads based on voltage or frequency, change configurations based on external conditions, and more. Powerful logic, flexible I/O, time-deterministic processing, and high reliability make the SEL-2411 an attractive alternative to a PLC.
  • Sense up to 32 analog pressures, fluid level, temperatures, fluid flow, or other process values with analog input cards. Report these values to SCADA or distributed control systems, and use them in local automatic control equations.
  • Include the ac current and voltage input modules, and use built-in oscillographic event reporting and three-phase power calculations. Use SELOGIC to set the trigger conditions. Base automatic control on real or reactive power limits, or send power data to a plant DCS or SCADA system.
  • Use in a system with SEL communications processors, relays, and other devices, instead of an RTU. An RTU provides only remote I/O for SCADA; therefore, you do not benefit from the other functions available through an SEL communications processor-based system—protection settings management, power system report management, high-speed local logic, direct engineering access, and more. These systems are more reliable and cost less than settling for an RTU.
  • Store up to 512 Sequential Events Recorder (SER) reports of actual or calculated digital input transitions, time-tagged to the nearest millisecond. Send the SER data to a communications processor for system analysis and troubleshooting.

Additional Information

  • Personalize LCD messages through the event- driven display point settings.
  • Include the standard IRIG-B satellite time-synchronization input that provides very high precision timestamped events (1 millisecond). Use the SEL-2401 Satellite-Synchronized Clock, which has 100 nanosecond time accuracy, to provide precise event time synchronization.
  • Measure accurate ac electrical properties with the optional ac current and voltage cards. Measure three-phase real power, reactive power, apparent power, and power factor (with both current and voltage inputs). Single chassis supports up to seven current and three voltage inputs.
  • Use the optional IEC 61850 communications to exchange analog and digital data with multiple SEL-2411 PACs or other IEC 61850-compliant devices.
  • Use the rugged SEL-2725 Five-Port Ethernet Switch to connect four SEL-2411 devices together via RJ-45 ports, with the fifth port serving as a fiber-optic port for the Ethernet LAN connection. Connect using SEL-C627 Category 5e STP cables and SEL-C807 fiber-optic cables. Or, connect two SEL-2411 PACs with an SEL-C628 crossover Ethernet cable.
  • Use comprehensive reporting to understand events, schedule maintenance, detect unfavorable trends, modify loads, and satisfy information requirements of supervisory equipment.
  • Select the external RTD module (SEL-2600A or SEL-2600D) to eliminate expensive wire pulls and reduce wiring terminations at the device by as much as 40 percent, while acquiring clean RTD signals and an additional contact input. Include the internal 10 RTD SELECT I/O card to support up to 22 RTDs per chassis.
  • Receive automatic voice notification though the SEL-3010 Event Messenger to alert personnel to problems.
  • Provide secure serial communication through the SEL-3021 Serial Encrypting Transceiver and the SEL-3022 Wireless Encrypting Transceiver.
  • Use the built in MIRRORED BITS communications to get fast relay-to-relay status information, improve trip times, and reduce arc-flash hazards.
  • Quickly send and retrieve settings, gather reports, and load new firmware on the SEL-2411 using the new SEL-4391 Data Courier™.
  • Select from a wide power supply range: 110–250 Vdc, 110-230 Vac, or 24–48 Vdc.
  • Rely on the industry's widest ambient operating temperature , –40° to +85°C (–40° to +185°F), with as much as 95 percent relative humidity (noncondensing).
  • Choose the SEL-2411-1 surface-mount option, using the SEL-2411 and the surface-mounting bracket for easy access to rear connections. This enables mounting in padmount switchgear where remote control and rear panel access only are required.
