SEL-2810

Fiber-Optic Transceiver/Modem With IRIG-B

Use one pair of fibers for full-duplex serial communications plus IRIG-B time synchronization. SEL-2810 Transciever w/IRIG

  • Low-Cost Fiber-Optic Communication
Use data rates from 0-20,000 bits per second for a full duplex serial link with up to 500 meters of multi-mode optical fiber. Use the same transceivers/modems and fibers to simultaneously transfer simplex IRIG-B time code.
  • Easy Application
Plug transceiver/modem directly onto a standard 9-pin serial connector (DB-9). No special mounting is required. Receives power from the host device via the connector; no separate power supply or power wiring is needed. Transmits visible light (650 nm)for easy inspection. One pair of fibers handles duplex serial data link and simplex IRIG-B time code link. Requires no jumpers or settings.
  • Secure and Reliable Data Transfer
Far less susceptible to EMI/RFI than copper links.
  • Improved Safety
Provides improved isolation from ground potential rise and other electrical hazards compared to copper connections.

  • SEL Communications Processors and Relays
Use an SEL-2810MT for each IED port on an SEL-2020/2030 Communications Processor. Use a duplex fiber-optic cable to connect each SEL-2810MT to an SEL-2810MR, mounted on each relay, lower-tier communications processor, or logic processor. Connect the appropriate adapter cable between the IRIG-B output from the SEL-2810MR and the IRIG-B input for the remote device. The SEL-2020/2030 communicates with interleaved ASCII and binary messages over the full-duplex serial link, using the same fibers that are also synchronizing the device clocks with simplex IRIG-B signals.
  • SEL-2100 Logic Processor and Relays
Connect SEL-2810MT Fiber-Optic Transceivers/Modems to the serial ports of a relay and an SEL-2100 Logic Processor. Use MIRRORED BITS communications for high-speed exchange of protection information. Coordinate protection between generating plants and associated switchyards or between multiple control houses in the same station. Transfer to backup protection based on loss of potential or failures detected by diagnostics. Keep the dc circuits segregated between cabinets. Provide directional element-based bus protection.
