Key Features

  • Improve Communications Reliability
    Use data rates up to 115.2 kbps for a full duplex serial link with up to 5 kilometers of multimode optical fiber. Far less susceptible to EMI/RFI than copper links, with a maximum Bit Error Rate of 10 -9. Apply in harsh electrical and physical environments.
  • Apply Easily
    Plug transceiver/modem directly onto a standard 9-pin serial connector (DB-9). No special mounting is required. Uses popular ST® connectors. Requires no jumpers or settings. Eliminate the need for special adapters by using the selector switch to choose DCE or DTE pin usage.
  • Use Control Lines to Improve Operation
    Use the same transceivers and fibers to simultaneously transfer duplex data plus a control signal in each direction. Use for data flow-control to prevent overrunning buffers, key transmitters, or sense equipment problems.
  • Choose Best Power Source
    Provide power from the host device; no separate power supply or power wiring is needed. Or, if the host cannot provide a control line for power, connect an external power supply to the power-input jack.
  • Improve Safety
    Provides improved isolation from ground potential rise and other electrical hazards compared to copper connections. Eye-safe Class 1 Laser Product.

 

Accessories

  • 230-0601 AC Power Adapter provides power via the input power jack. Use with devices that cannot assert a control line to power the transceiver.
  • SEL-9321 Low-Voltage DC Power Supply provides power via the input power jack. Converts station DC power to 5 Vdc. Use with devices that cannot assert a control line to power the transceiver.
  • C805 Fiber-optic Cables: 200 µm
  • C807 Fiber-Optic Jumpers: 62.5 µm

Applications

  • Use an SEL-2814 link between an SEL-2032/2030/2020 Communications processor or other master device, and a device that uses hardware flow-control (“handshaking”) to prevent overflowing buffers.
  • Connect radios with integral EIA-232 serial ports to monitoring and control equipment, using an SEL-2814 link. Assert the control line to the radio to key the transmitter. Use the other control line from the radio to sense radio or carrier status.
  • Sense the status of devices by monitoring a control line indicating loss of power, loss of connection, printer paper problem, or other alarm conditions.
