SEL is pleased to announce the availability of a new release of firmware for the SEL-2890 Ethernet Transceiver (Version R104). This new firmware includes features that make it easier to apply the SEL-2890 Ethernet Transceiver. The changes include the following:

• We changed the default serial port speed to 19,200 bps, so that when you apply the SEL-2890 out-of-the-box with an SEL-2032 or 2030 Communications Processor, you can communicate through the communications processor to enter the other configuration settings.
• We improved the robustness of the SEL-2890 for handling certain types of files. This eliminated problems that some users encountered when transferring files with ".dat" extensions from SEL-421 Protection and Control Systems, and with some large binary files with other devices.
• For the best operation with an SEL-200 Series Relay, we clarified in the documentation that you should set the serial port speed for the SEL-2890 and the relay to 2,400 bps.
