Implement step distance protection using the SEL-311B Relay with four-shot reclosing and synchronism check elements.

Basic Stand-Alone Line Protection
Three zones of phase and ground mho distance elements including two forward and one reversible zone. Two forward plus one reversible definite-time directional negative-sequence and residual ground overcurrent elements. Three torque-controlled phase instantaneous, definite-time elements. One phase, one negative-sequence, and one residual ground time-overcurrent element. Zone 1 extension logic.
Innovative Logic for Secure and Stable Operation
Innovative logic detects CCVT transients and prevents Zone 1 overreach on high SIR applications. Positive-sequence memory voltage phase directional polarization for three-phase fault directional security. Best Choice Ground Directional Element™ logic for adaptive ground fault directional polarization. Load encroachment logic to protect against false operations during normal heavy loads.
Synchrophasor Measurements
Turn state estimation into state measurement with wide-area measurement of voltage and current phase angles and magnitudes. Improve system stability with high-speed, load-angle measurements. Increase stable loading with analysis of voltage and angular stability.
Monitoring and Metering
Event reports, Sequential Events Recorder (SER), circuit breaker contact wear monitor, substation battery monitor, instantaneous and demand metering, and optional local display panel.
Reclosing
Programmable four-shot breaker auto-reclose with synchronism and voltage check logic for optimal system restoration.
Communications
EIA-232 and EIA-485 serial ports for local/remote access and system integration. MIRRORED BITS^® communications protocol for two eight-bit channels of secure relay-to-relay logic communications available on both rear-panel EIA-232 serial ports.
Advanced Protection and Control Logic
SELOGIC^® control equations with 16 SELOGIC variables, 16 timers, 16 latch bits, and 16 remote control elements for customizing advanced protection and control schemes. Sixteen local control elements and 16 programmable display points with optional front-panel LCD and operator pushbuttons. Phase under- and overvoltage elements included.
